Introduction to Solar
Solar energy is now the easiest and cheapest way to produce electricity.
Photovoltaic solar panels are an ideal way to reduce your electricity bill and your carbon footprint. Given that individual households consume different amounts of electricity, payback calculations vary and are only indicative.
Solar photovoltaic (PV) panels are generally fitted on the roof in a northerly direction and at an angle to maximise the amount of sunlight that hits the panels. Solar PV panels on the roofs of homes and businesses generate clean electricity by converting the energy in sunlight.
This conversion takes place within modules of specially fabricated materials that make up the solar panels. It is a relatively simple process that requires no moving parts. In most cases, solar panels are connected to the mains power supply through a device called an inverter.
The solar system works in perfect harmony with the grid so that you are not affected by changes in conditions; i.e. if the house is using 5kW of power and the solar is generating 3KW, then you will be buying 2kW from the utility company. The same can be said of the opposite scenario: If your solar is generating 5KW and the house isusing 3kW, then the 2kW will be sold back to the grid.
Rising Electricity Rates
The cost of energy from our local grid continues to rise – around 80% in the last 10 years*! And costs for energy resources like gas will inevitably continue to go up, on the other hand solar electricity is a renewable source of energy and the cost of a PV system is far less than it was a decade ago!
